Abstract

A new experimental method is presented to investigate directly the far-infrared frequency dependence of the Josephson ac current amplitude near the superconducting gap. The lowest value of the damping factor δ of the Riedel singularity in niobium contacts at 4 K is found to be δ=(2+2−1)×10−3 and is attributed to quasiparticle damping.
