Abstract
Damping is the property of a material by which mechanical vibrations are imbibed and expended during cyclic loading. Combination of good mechanical and damping property are inevitable for modern structural materials subjected to cyclic deformity and resonant loading. A study on the damping behaviour of aluminium composites in view of the importance of aluminium as a structural material is conducted. The study covers relevant articles which give insight to the reinforcements and processing parameters influencing the damping ability of aluminium composites. The influence of heat treatment, introduction of interface layers, and the generation of white layer on wire EDM process are all discussed. The literature goes in detail on the different mechanisms which determine the damping capabilities of the aluminium matrix composites.
