Abstract

Compliance is the most troublesome variable in obtaining high frequency response. Factors such as occult air bubbles and leaky connections cause the greatest difficulty. Damped natural frequency was shown to be directly related to the radius and inversely related to the square root of length of the catheter. Coils, bends, and the angle of attachment of the catheter to the transducer are of minor importance in obtaining a good frequency response.
