Abstract
This article, that aims to contribute to the study of the contemporary reception of Lope de Vega in audiovisual fiction, analyzes three recent Spanish films about Cervantes and/or Lope, and the literary rivalry between them: the film Lope (2010), the tv series El Ministerio del Tiempo (2015) and the documentary film Cervantes contra Lope (2016), which proposes a fictional hypothesis on the authorship of the apocryphal Quijote written by Avellaneda. The article raises a discussion (complemented with the opinions of experts and scholars expressed in a academic meeting at Olmedo (Valladolid) about the interest that the life and works of the Spanish Golden Age writers can arouse for the film industry.
