Abstract

The damage accumulated within the material element is associated with the physical plane and predicted by the contact stress or strain rule. For singular stress or strains regimes a nonlocal failure or damage rule is used. The application to both monotonic and variable loading is provided. The theoretical model predictions are compared with the experimental data obtained for notched specimens under combined tension and shear loading varying monotonically or cyclically. The compliance variation is predicted from the known damage distribution on physical planes.
