Abstract

The application of damage control surgery has significantly improved the clinical outcome of severe abdominal injury. This concept also applies to non-trauma abdominal emergencies in order to reduce mortality and immediate post-operative complications. It can avoid extensive procedures on unstable patients, stabilizes potentially fatal problems at initial operation, and applies staged surgery after successfully initial resuscitation.
