Abstract

The manuscript Perugia, Biblioteca Augusta, H 56, containing the plays of the so-called “Byzantine triad” of Aeschylus (Prometheus - Septem - Persae), was assigned to the Thoman class σ by Alexander Turyn; he also discusses its interrelationships with other manuscripts of the same group. I’ve analysed the paratextual sections and the errores coniunctivi, in order to make some observations about the place assigned to the Perugia manuscript by Turyn, taking into account the open recension theory formulated by R. D. Dawe about Aeschylean manuscript tradition. Then, I’ve analysed two lectiones singulares of the Perugia manuscript (Persae, vv. 169, 906) in order to re9ect on the value of the “Thoman recension” and on the contribution of XV century scribes in reading Aeschylean tragedy.
