Abstract

AbstractThe herbicide dalapon, (2,2‐dichloropropionic acid) was applied to ‘Cayuga’ alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) at different growth stages and dehydrated at harvest in a high speed commercial dehydrator. Some dalapon was lost after chopping in the field and prior to dehydration. A large part of the residual dalapon was lost from forage during dehydration. Losses were attributed to distillation of the intact dalapon molecule, destruction by heat, and enzyme‐induced degradation.
