Abstract

ABSTRACT This paper presents a review of the unique field monitoring & control system already installed on the Upper Zakum field, offshore Abu-Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. This system may be considered as a pioneer project of its kind in the Middle Eastern Oil Industry. The size and scope of this project is given in the proceeding general description of the field and its development philosophy. Followed by description of the Telesystem and its use as a hierarchical distributed control and data acquisition system. The paper is then concluded with an appraisal of the system by highlighting its merits and demands.
