Abstract
In the domestic transportation, the reduction of the labor burden becomes an urgent problem due to aging of the crew and difficulty of the securing the manpower. The ship operator becomes most nervous during the berthing operation. Carelessness and judgment error of the ship operators due to misunderstanding may cause a major accident such as ship damage by the collision and fracture of port facilities to the wharf.In the NMRI (National Maritime Research Institute), "Berthing operation support system" is developed to solve this problem. The equipment measuring approaching speed and ship motion using techniques such as the image processing of CCD camera and laser radar was developed. In this paper, outline of developed system and results of evaluation test of the equipment are reported.
