Abstract

The ““2004 National Survey of American Jews,”” sponsored by the Jewish-Zionist Education Department of the Jewish Agency, was conducted between 14 December 2004 and 15 January 2005 and was based on a representative national sample of 1,448 households. An article dated 4 March 2005 by Steven M. Cohen in the Forward, comparing the results of the 2004 survey with those of the 2002 survey, found a notable decline in the attachment of American Jews to Israel in the last two years (26%% vs. 31%% ““very emotionally attached”” to Israel; 57%% vs. 73%% for whom ““caring about Israel”” is a ““very important part of being Jewish””; etc.). The survey, released on 7 March 2005, is available on the Jewish Agency for Israel Web site at www.jafi.org.il.
