Abstract

Pecan phylloxera (PP): Phylloxera devastatrix Pergande A trial to evaluate the efficacy of four insecticides for control of PP was conducted at a commercial pecan orchard located near Benton, LA, in Bossier Parish. Fifty-yr-old cv. ‘Stuart’ trees infested the previous year with PP were selected for use. Tree spacing was 100 x 100 ft for a total of four trees/acre. The experimental design was a RCB with five trees per treatment. Treatment applications were made on 7 Apr using a Savage D-500 PTO driven air-blast sprayer calibrated to deliver 130 gpa of finished spray. Gall counts were made on 16 May by counting the number of galls on each of five terminals (current season’s shoot growth) per tree, for a total of 25 terminals per treatment. Data were analyzed using ANOVA with mean separation by DMRT (P = 0.05). Significantly fewer galls were found on the treated trees than the check trees. Significantly fewer galls were found on those trees treated with Fulfill, Centric, and Trimax Pro, than on those trees treated with Movento. There were no significant differences in the number of galls found among trees treated with Fulfill, Centric, and Trimax Pro.
