Abstract

Recently, since the size of component becomes smaller, then the welding of thin metal foil has been required. Besides, the flexibility of process is important according to the accessibility especially for small components. The combination of micro-beam and high-speed laser scanning has the advantages for. metal foil welding. Therefore, the characteristics of micro-welding for stainless steel foil were investigated by high-speed laser scanning, in which the welding was carried out by high-speed scanner system with single-mode fiber laser. Assist gas is effective to generate smooth fusion bead even under high-speed scanning condition. Bead width and bead depth increased with increasing the scanning speed under the same energy density conditions, and high-energy efficiency was expected under high-speed laser scanning condition. The combination of smaller spot and high-speed laser scanning made it possible to obtain good overlap welding even in the case of 20 μm stainless foil.
