Abstract

This study investigates the design method of a new-structural matrix material, called "mesh sheet" for Stirling engine regenerators. Flow and heat transfer characteristics of the matrix materials were analyzed by using a general-purpose finiteelement-method fluid analysis program, FIDAP. Based on the analysis results, the dimensions of mesh sheet were optimized and a new-model mesh sheet was manufactured. Some mesh sheets were installed in a 3kW Stirling engine, NS03T, and the matrix performances were examined from the engine experimental results. The reliability of the calculation results of FIDAP was confirmed by comparing with the experimental results. And the new-mesh sheet, M5 obtained higher engine output power than that of the previously manufactured mesh sheets.
