Abstract
The measures to mitigate climate crisis taken so far are insufficient, as they fail to slow down the deterioration of all parameters – an increase in CO2 and methane content, rising air and water temperature, which causes rising ocean levels, the extinction of many animals and plants, an increase in bulk and nano- plastics in the environment. Physical chemistry provides an explanation of the problem we face: In the last hundred years we have deviated our planet far from the equilibrium that was established in millions years before. The greater the deviation is, the greater is the rate the system tries to reach the equilibrium again. This article briefly mentions some of the most important issues: methane content in the air, renewable energy sources, extinction of insects and degradation of soil, use of disposable plastics, nanoparticles from rubber tires in the environment. The greatest problem lies in insufficient education.
