Abstract
Glass of the composition Bi 4Sr 3Ca 3Cu 4O 16 was prepared, which showed superconductivity at T c = 78.5 K with proper heat treatment. X-ray diffraction and IR absorption studies were carried out to identify the glass structure, indicating the good quality of the glass. D.c. and a.c. electrical properties in the temperature range 300–550 K of the as-quenched glass were the subject of the present work. Properties such as dielectric constant, loss factor and electrical conductivities as functions of frequency and temperature are reported. Different models of electrical conduction in amorphous materials have been tested to describe this glass. It was concluded that it is of the Fermi glass type.
