The transformations of space in the vicinity of large cities contribute to undertaking general urbanization studies. The purpose of the study was to identify the local determinants which have the greatest impact on changes in the intensity of entrepreneurship. The considerations were focused mainly on variables describing the location of individual poviats in relation to urban centers, the latter constituting regional centers of economic development. The presented work focuses on the issues concerning the location of individual districts in relation to urban centers, road networks with the status of international routes and airports. The method of interactive C&RT classification trees was used in the modelling process. The analysis showed that the largest number of business units were registered in voivodeship cities constituting regional development centers, both in absolute and relative terms. Faster growths in entrepreneurship was mainly due to population density, the number of places to sleep per 1,000 inhabitants and the distance from a large city, all features that identify the market’s absorbency.
