Abstract
Cerium-doped lutetium pyrosilicate (Lu 2Si 2O 7:Ce 3+, LPS) is an attractive scintillator for gamma-ray detection. The Czochralski growth of large single crystals of LPS is reported. Hardness and thermal expansion have been measured. Due to an anisotropy of the physical properties, boule quality depends on crystal growth conditions (crystal seed orientation, cooling rate…). The crystal growth parameters have been optimized in order to produce crack-free crystals.
