Abstract

A COMMON objection to the more widespread use of human ascitic fluid as a growth medium is its frequent cytotoxicity, the nature of which is not well understood. Several investigators have described an antibody-complement system lethal to mouse cells, which is often present in normal human serum1–3 and also in sera of some other species3. It is not demonstrable in human eerebrospinal fluids though4.
