Abstract
• Flemingins P and Q are new chalcones from Flemingia macrophylla (Willd.) Merr. • Flemingin Q was characterised as a chalcone with a geranyl side chain. • Flemingin Q exhibited high cytotoxic activity against 4T1, T47D, and HeLa cells. Two unreported chalcone derivatives: flemingins P and Q ( 1 and 2 ), and two known analogues ( 3 and 4 ) were isolated from the leaves of Flemingia macrophylla (Willd.)Merr.The structures of flemingins P and Q were determined by a combination of spectroscopic methods. Chalcones 1–4 were assayed in four cancer cells (4T1, T47D, HeLa, and WiDr). Flemingin Q ( 2 ) exhibited high cytotoxic activity against 4T1, T47D, and HeLa cells, whereas compound 3 showed high cytotoxicity against 4T1 and WiDr cells. Conversely, compounds 1 and 4 did not show any anticancer activity towards the four cancer cells examined.
