Paramyxoviruses include a number of human and animal pathogens that enter the host and spread through the respiratory tract. In humans, paramyxoviruses include measles virus (MV), mumps virus (MPS), parainfluenza virus (the causative agent of croup), and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), which causes bronchitis and pneumonitis in infants. In animals, important pathogens include canine distemper, rinderpest, Newcastle disease, and parainfluenza viruses.
