The cytotoxic potential of 160 crude extracts from 80 kinds of Korean medicinal herbs was evaluated with cultured human hepatocellular carcinoma cells, Hep3B and HepG2. Aqueous extracts of C. sappan, C. chinensis, L. apetalum, and P. praeruptorum, and methanol extracts of A. catechu, C. sappan, Cinnamomum cassia, C. chinensis, L. apetalum, M. obovata, P. praeruptorum, and U. pumila, exhibited cytotoxic activity against HepG2.
