Cytotoxic Activities of Phytochemical Components from Ethanol Extract of Ajwa Date on Human Hepatoma Cancer Cells in Vitro

  • Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is considered one of the leading causes of mortality and is among the top frequent cancer-related death worldwide

  • The polyphenolic constituents of Ajwa date ethanol extract (ADX) were investigated, and HPLC analysis revealed the occurrence of six primary polyphenols, including gallic acid (GA), naringenin (NG), catechin, chlorogenic acid, caffeic acid, and syringic acid at concentrations of 28.41 ± 1.62, 16.96 ± 1.3, 4.91 ± 0.75, 2.40 ± 0.38, 1.17 ± 0.18, and 1.17 ± 0.12 mg/g, respectively (Figures 1-2)

Introduction

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is considered one of the leading causes of mortality and is among the top frequent cancer-related death worldwide. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a primary liver cancer that occurs and develops in the liver and is among the top frequent cancer-related death worldwide. Objective: The present study aims to evaluate the anticancer and cytotoxic effects of Ajwa date ethanol extract (ADX) on hepatocarcinoma (HepG2) cells. Results: The ADX induced significant cytotoxic effects against hepatocarcinoma cells in vitro. It was reduced the viability and proliferation in HepG2 cells treated with ADX at various concentrations for different exposure times comparing to untreated cells.
