Abstract

Cytosolic <i>Listeria monocytogenes</i> (cyan‐green) are motile, as indicated by the long polymerized actin tails (red, in the center panel), which promotes cell‐to‐cell spreading. Motility is impeded (side panels) in mutants that lack a single wall teichoic acid decorating sugar. For details, see the article by Spears <i>et al</i>. on pp. 714–730 of this issue.
