Abstract
Dermatophytic pseudomycetomas (DPM) is an important deep dermal infection caused by dermatophytes. It is mostly noticed in immune-deficient Persian cats. It is characterized by swelling, ulceration or draining sinuses and grains in tissue. An excisional biopsy sample from an abdominal mass from 2 year old male Persian cat was received at the Diagnostic section of Veterinary Clinical Complex, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Meerut for diagnosis of the condition. History revealed that animal had a ventral abdominal nodular ulcerated swelling of about 6 cm diameter which was painless. Alopecia was noticed in the swelling. Physical examination of the mass was done and multiple impression smears were made from the cut section of the mass. The impression smears were stained with Field stain according to manufactures protocol. Grossly, the mass was firm and ulcerated and the cut surface contained multiple military light yellowish grain like substance. Cytological picture suggested pyo-granulomatous inflammation with presence of dermatophyte spores and septate hyphae. The case was diagnosed as derma- tophytic pseudomycetoma.
