Abstract

A “bound form” of cytokinin extracted from roots of the rice plant was purified by column and thin layer chromatography, then analysed by gas chromatography and IR spectrophotometry. Results strongly suggest that the bound cytokinin is zeatin glucoside. This bound cytokinin showed weak activity for promoting Carrot callus growth. This activity markedly increased after acid hydrolysis or rβ-glucosidase treatments.
