Abstract
Background. T helper (Th) cell cytokine profile may be a critical factor in determining the outcome and the rate of liver injury in chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. Aims of this study were to analyse serum levels of Th1, Th2 and Th3 cytokines in paediatric patients with chronic HCV infection to evaluate the effects of interferon-alpha (IFN-alpha) treatment on cytokine levels and to correlate the results with the therapy outcome.
