Abstract

Microdissection of biopsy material from labial minor salivary glands followed by RT-PCR demonstrates extensive production of cytokines IL-2, IL-6, IL-10, TNF-α, TGF-β, and IFN-γ in both normal glands and in glands affected by Sjogren's syndrome. Continuation of these studies should expand our knowledge of normal salivary gland function and the pathogenis of Sjogren'syndrome.
