Abstract

AbstractInterspecific hybridization of Akodon molinae × Akodon dolores was obtained by crossing animals from our laboratory breeding colony. Sixteen pregnant females which produced a total of 86 Akodon hybrids were obtained from a total of 40 matings. The sex ratio in the hybrids was 2.58 males for each female. No clear explanation for this abnormal ratio can at the present time be given; however it cannot be ascribed to a phenomenon of intrauterine selection between sexes. The presence of natural hybrids has not been detected; therefore, the appearance of Akodon molinae × Akodon dolores hybrids is up to this moment a laboratory phenomenon.
