Abstract
1. 1. Liver cytochrome oxidase and succinic dehydrogenase activities from poikilothermic vertebrates were measured and correlated with the liver melanin pigment cell cycle. 2. 2. An inverse relationship was suggested between liver pigment content and succinic dehydrogenase-cytochrome oxidase. 3. 3. A model for the synthesis of melanin from DOPA by the cytochrome- c-cytochrome oxidase system is discussed. 4. 4. The possibility that DOPA is transported to the liver from the skin is also discussed.
