Abstract

The findings of Okunuki and Wainio are confirmed that on oxygenation of cytochrome oxidase ferrocytochrome c:oxygen oxidoreductase, EC 1.9.3.1) reduced by sodium dithionite a compound with a Soret band at about 428 mμ is formed which differs from ferric oxidase, and that this is not a mixture of ferrous and ferric oxidase. The product does not contain ferrocytochromes a or a3, while it cannot be excluded that it may contain ferricytochrome a.
