Abstract

The sperm histones of the spiny dogfish (Squalus acanthias), the longnose skate (Raja rhina), and the ratfish (Hydrolagus colliei) fall into the mouse/grasshopper class, designated by Bloch (1969) according to a variety of cytochemical criteria. The implications of this finding for sperm-histone function and evolution are discussed.
