Abstract

In summary it may be said that cysts in the gingiva are not as rare as indicated by a review of the literature. The etiologic possibilities for the gingival cyst are: (1) heterotopic glandular tissue; (2) remnants of the dental lamina, enamel organ, or epithelial islands of the periodontal membrane; (3) degenerative changes in a proliferation from an epithelial peg; (4) traumatic implantation.
