Abstract
The poorly known Mediterranean endemic species Cystoseira jabukae Ercegovic (Cystoseiraceae, Fucophyceae) has been collected from Scandola, Corsica. These collections are the first of this species from the coast of France. Study of the Corsican specimens and comparison with specimens from the type locality, Jabuka Island in the mid-Adriatic, have confirmed the taxonomic characters of C. jabukae and revealed confusion between this species and Cystoseira funkii Schiffner ex Gerloff et Nizamuddin, another poorly known Mediterranean species. Cystoseira funkii was also collected for the first time on the coast of France (Scandola). Comparison of specimens from the Balearic Islands, the Aeolian Archipelago, and Sicily with the holotype of C. funkii has shown that all previous reports of C. jabukae from the western Mediterranean and the Ionian Sea probably refer to this species.
