Abstract
A taxonomical treatment of the representatives of Cystopteris (Cystopteridaceae) occurring in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile and Uruguay is presented. In this region, the genus is represented by three species: Cystopteris apiiformis from Argentina and Chile, C. diaphana from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil and Uruguay, and C. ulei, endemic from Serra Dourada (Goias), Brazil. Identification keys, descriptions, comments, illustrations, the full synonymy, distribution maps, and ecological remarks for the species are presented. Four taxa: Athyrium fumarioides, C. apiiformis, C. ulei and Polypodium diaphanum are lectotypified. Two new synonyms are proposed: C. fumarioides (sensu Kunze) and C. emarginulata under C. diaphana. Cystopteris fragilis is excluded from the studied area.
