Abstract
The present paper deals with the cylindrical bending of sandwich plates consisting of an arbitrary number of orthotropic layers and resting on periodically spaced supports of finite length. A plane-strain analytical solution is developed based on series expansion of the plate displacements. This approach allows one to consider plates subjected to prescribed tractions or displacements on the top and bottom surfaces. In addition, nonuniform eigenstress distribution can be applied within each layer. A numerical solution is presented for two four-layer sandwich plates with different thin interlayers inserted between the orthotropic top face sheet and the foam core. Stress concentrations near supports are analyzed in detail.
