Abstract

Reaction between RuH(PPh3)2(π-C5H5) and C2(CF3)2 affords Ru[cis-CF3C:C(H)(CF3)](PPh3)2(π-C5H5)(I) and the butadienyl complex [graphic omitted]CH(CF3)(PPh3)(π-C5H5)(II). With C2(CO2Me)2 the hydride affords the trans-adduct RuC(CO2Me):CH(CO2Me)(PPh3)2(π-C5H5)(IV), together with the cyclic ester complex [graphic omitted](PPh3)(π-C5H5)(V). Reaction of (IV) or (V) with C2(CF3)2 affords a butadienyl complex [graphic omitted]CH(CF3)(PPh3)(π-C5H5)(VI). Hexafluoroacetone and (IV) react to give a complex (VII) containing a co-ordinated ester group and an intramolecular hydrogen bond, formal insertion of the ketone into a C–H bond of the cyclopentadienyl ligand having occurred.
