Abstract

The potential applications of cyclodextrin polymers (soluble and insoluble ones) in the pharmaceutical industry are reviewed. The soluble polymers are good solubilizers of drugs thus enhancing their bioavailability. When applied topically the insoluble bead polymer accelerates the healing of burns and ulcers. It can also be used for chromatography and to remove certain components from mixtures. The insoluble ground polymer is an effective tablet disintegrant in direct compression systems as well as in formulations made by wet granulation.
