Abstract

2-Thiono-5,5-dimethyl-1,3,2-dioxaphosphorinan 1 treated with nitrosyl chloride yields a mixture of asymmetric 2 and symmetric 3 dithiopyrophosphates. Reinvestigation of the reaction of nitrosyl chloride with diethyl thiophosphite showed that, in addition to tetraethyl thiopyrophosphate, the corresponding dithiopyrophosphates are also formed. A mechanism is suggested for the reactions investigated, with nitrosyl chloride as an ambident nucleophile.
