Abstract

ABSTRACT In Hollow Structural Section (HSS) column-beam-brace connections, offset between gusset plate and HSS column webs leads to large distortion and out-of-plane deformation in HSS column face. To alleviate such undesirable effect, this paper proposes a new connection which consists of concrete infill and gusset plate passing through HSS column, called Through-Gusset Plate (TGP).The results indicated that the proposed connection increases the lateral stiffness, lateral strength, and energy dissipation capacity of frame specimens by up to 74, 67, and 73%, respectively. Moreover, due to using this novel connection, the normal force component capacity of connection is enhanced by approximately 3.2 times.
