Abstract

In Aspergillus giganteus mut. alba the initial cells of fertile conidiophores appeared at day 2, both in darkness and in light. In darkness conidiophores appeared until day 9, their length was 3 mm. Cyclic AMP level and phosphodiesterase activity were always low. Continuous light (166 pEinsteins·cm-2·s-1) provoked synchronization of the initial cells and formation of the conidiophores at day 3 and conidiophore elongation during 4 days (30–40 mm at day 7). Under these conditions, cyclic AMP level increased during the whole time of conidiophore elongation (4 nmol/culture at day 7), then decreased rapidly; phosphodiesterase activity increased until day 9 (5 nmol of degraded cyclic AMP per 10 min and per culture), then decreased. The inhibiting effect of caffeine 4 mM on phosphodiesterase activity, cyclic AMP level and conidiophore elongation was demonstrated.
