Abstract

In this letter, we propose a cycle slip detection and correction method for carrier phase synchronization in coded systems operating at extremely low signal-to-noise ratios. In particular, the log-likelihood ratios output from the demodulator are employed by the detector to make a cycle slip decision. Characteristics of the proposed detector in terms of probabilities of both detection and false alarm are derived. Numerical results verify the approximated analytical expressions and show the improvement in bit error rate performance by employing the proposed method in the presence of cycle slips.
