Héctor Hoyos Héctor Hoyos Stanford University Héctor Hoyos is an assistant professor of Latin American Literature and Culture in the Department of Iberian and Latin American Cultures at Stanford University. He holds a PhD and an MA in romance studies from Cornell University. He was born in Bogotá, where he studied philosophy and literature at the Universidad de los Andes. He is currently preparing two book manuscripts, entitled “Beyond Bolaño: The Global Latin American Novel” and “El deber de la travesura: César Aira y la crítica cultural.” His research areas include visual culture and critical theory, as well as comparative and philosophical approaches to literature. His articles on García Márquez, Roberto Bolaño, urban fiction, and the late thought of Ludwig Wittgenstein have appeared in or are forthcoming from several venues, among them Third Text, Chasqui, and Revista Iberoamericana.
