Abstract

One of the most concerning health care information technology headlines is the growing number of cyber security challenges faced by clinical agencies. Cyber security threats and attacks can take many shapes and forms, but the most pernicious and aggressive are those that result in a complete shut-down of one or more vital technology systems or the rendering of health care data to be inaccessible. The intense dependency on technology in health care for everything from billing to intravenous drip rates has elevated concerns about these attacks and increased the risk for direct harm to patients.
