The new ADA e-books available from “www.adacatalog.org” include volumes such as CDT 2005 Current Dental Terminology, the Employee Office Manual, Protecting Your Dental Office from Fraud and Embezzlement, the HIPAA Privacy and Security Kits and the Basic Training series. Once you have purchased one of the e-books, it will be available to you in PDF format for seven days, during which you can download the document, read it on screen or print it. Books that contain forms or sample documents also include Microsoft Word or rich text format (RTF) files that can be edited to include your own information. Because the file size of the e-books can be large, use of a broadband Internet connection is recommended for purchasing and downloading your selections. To place an order for the ADA's new line of e-books, visit “www.adacatalog.org” and select the “ADA Catalog Products” hyperlink under the “Orderable Downloads” heading that appears in the left column. Earlier this summer, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) launched a new online system that allows dentists and other practitioners registered to prescribe controlled drugs to report the loss or theft of these substances through the agency's Office of Diversion Control Web site. DEA Form 106, which registrants must complete to notify the agency of any theft or “significant loss” of a controlled substance, can be accessed online by visiting “www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov” and selecting the “DEA Form 106 On-Line” icon on the right side of the page. The Diversion Control Web site also offers additional information on alternative reporting procedures, as well as controlled substance schedules and guidance on what constitutes a “significant loss” of a controlled substance. For questions about electronic submission of Form 106, contact the DEA toll-free at 1-800-882-9539. The number of Americans with broadband Internet access at home grew to some 84 million last spring, an increase of 40 percent compared with March 2005, the Pew Internet and American Life Project reported. The increase in broadband access was fueled in part by continuing growth among the ranks of those with Internet access in the home, Pew said. The number of home Internet users rose to nearly three-quarters of all Americans this year, and nearly one-half of the new users subscribe to high-speed services. Pew also reported that digital subscriber line (DSL) connections now account for one-half of all home broadband connections, with cable access holding a 41 percent market share. Those numbers represent a significant turnaround compared with March 2003, when 67 percent of home broadband users subscribed to cable access versus only 28 percent for DSL.
