Abstract

Occasionally therapists encounter clients who dismiss statements of support and affirmation. This paper examines the effect of such situations on one therapist through some of the views of cybernetic theory and writings of Michael White. The use of relative influence questions with two case examples are illustrated to show how a new therapeutic context was created. Lastly, some considerations of a cybernetic therapy model are discussed with the therapist in mind.
