Abstract

Insiders are one of the most difficult attackers to deal with in manufacturing systems because of their legitimate access to critical manufacturing components, data, and information. Even a Cyber-Manufacturing System (CMS) that is equipped with the most effective intrusion detection system is vulnerable to insider threats. Insiders who are in the security parameter of a manufacturing system can easily incapacitate it with their authenticated access to the system. In order to devise ways to address the insider threats in CMS, a testbed was developed. To validate and evaluate the usefulness of the testbed for adversarial insider attacks, three physical audits and their results are presented with two case studies.
