Abstract

Operation of a cw arsenic ion (As +) laser using the gaseous arsenic trihydride, AsH 3, as a free arsenic donor in hollow-cathode He-AsH 3 discharges is reported. Optimum conditions of the gas mixture are set by simple gas handling techniques at room temperature. Laser performance compares favourably with that obtained with the He-As laser.
