Abstract

The practicing dermatologist or laser surgeon has had several atlases and monographs (Apfelberg's Atlas of Laser Surgery , Arndt and Dover's Illustrated Laser Surgery , and Tan's Management and Treatment of Benign Cutaneous Vascular Lesions ) that summarize the state-ofthe-art of laser medicine. Unfortunately, by the time these are published, newer advances in technology make some of the material outdated. Even the time from presentation at our laser meetings to publication is a limiting factor in keeping clinicians current. Mitchel Goldman and Richard Fitzpatrick have succeeded in publishing an up-to-date summary that is extensively referenced and current. In preparing a recent presentation of laser advances, the most current data on carbon dioxide laser ablation results using the new ultrapulse technology could be found only in their chapter on this topic and not in the current literature.
