Cutaneous immunity and predisposition to infections in diabetic foot population

Highlights

  • Diabetes causes a metabolic imbalance which has the root cause chronic hyperglycemia

  • The chronic hyperglycemic status alters the immune function of the tegument of diabetes patients and the subsiding of the local immune response raises the risk of local infections [1]

  • Among the host factors which lead to predisposition to infections at diabetes patients are hyperglycemia, vascular and neuropathic conditions as well as forming of colonies on the skin of pathogenic agents such as Staphylococcus aureus and the Candida species [3]
